Titanfall Developer Working on New 3rd-Person Star Wars Game

In honor of Star Wars Day (May 4th) yesterday, EA has announced that Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment is working on a new 3rd person Star Wars game.

In a post on EA’s official website, Partrick Soderlund, executive vice president of EA Studios, confirmed that the game will be “an all-new 3rd person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe” and that Respawn’s project joins Star Wars in development at EA Studios including Visceral Games, DICE, Capital Games, BioWar, and Motive.

Stig Asmussen who was the creative director for God of War III and joined Respawn in June 2014 will lead the project. In a quote by Asmussen in a blog post on Respawn’s site he said, “We promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet.” “Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio’s dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics.”

“At EA right now, we have multiple studios building a variety of great Star Wars games spanning different genres. We are all united by our teams’ passion for Star Wars stories, characters, and adventures,” Soderlund wrote. “There’s never been a better time to be a Star Wars fan. The passion we’re seeing for Star Wars from gamers – whether they’ve been along for the ride since Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope, or were introduced to the magic of Star Wars with Star Wars: The Force Awakens – is fueling our development teams and our partners to create unique interactive extensions of this deep, meaningful universe. As a game maker, nothing is more exciting.”

What do you think of Respawn making a Star Wars game? Some gamers didn’t particularly care for EA’s first Star Wars game to be released due to a lack of content on release, the 2015 Battlefront reboot. Do you think this one will be better in the hands of Respawn and Stig Asmussen? Let us know in the comments below!
