The Witcher is Coming to Netflix

The Witcher

Great news for all Geralt of Rivia lovers out there! Netflix will develop and produce a new show based on The Witcher universe. Created by Andrzej Sapkowski, the saga has fueled eight full novels so far and inspired an acclaimed trilogy of CD Projekt Red titles. Up until now, it had only inspired a Polish cinema adaptation. Now it opens up new narrative horizons, bringing hope to those who had bid already their farewells to the witcher.

The Witcher Gets a Full-On Adaptation

There are no details yet concerning actors, release dates, director lineups or what narrative strings this TV series will pull. “The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world,” executive producers Sean Daniel and Jason Brown said. “The characters are original, funny, and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix.”

If you are worried about how faithful the adaptation will be, dread not. Sapkowski himself is to serve as creative consultant for the series. “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories,” he said in a recent press release, “staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing.”

On top of this, Platige Image’s executive producers Baginski and Jarek Sawko have underlined that the essence of the books and all the intricacies of the universe will not be lost. “There is a moral and intellectual depth in these books which goes beyond genre,” they said. “[…] It’s a story about us, about the monster and the hero inside all of our hearts.”

How does this sound to you, Fanatics? Would you like to see an adaptation for The Witcher? What sort of stories should they bring up? Let us know in the comment section!
