The Star Wars from Visceral Games Distances Itself from Uncharted

Game director Amy Henning, who wrote and gave life to the Uncharted series until her departure from Naughty Dog in 2014, is working on a new Star Wars project by Visceral Games. And since her reputation precedes her, a correlation with the adventures of Nathan Drake is a question up in the air. Henning, however, confirms that this new Star Wars game won’t be another Uncharted.

In a recent interview with Glixel, she also goes about how she became involved in the project, changing EA’s first intentions. Originally, EA wanted to develop a “scrappy” third-person action adventure, she says. It was going to be a non-ambitious title ready to cash big money on account of the franchise’s general appeal. “Imagine how heartbreaking it would be,” she confesses, “to work on something I love so much only to be crushed under the combined wheels of EA, Lucasfilm, and Disney.”

She and Visceral Games have gone for something completely different. While the adventure beats may resonate with the Uncharted series, we are probably looking here at a game with multiple story arcs. Instead of focusing on the steps of a single hero, this Star Wars game will follow in parallel the adventures of different characters.

Visceral’s Mysterious “Star Wars”

There are still tons of questions about this enigmatic title. Apart from some seconds of early gameplay footage showed during E3 2016 we have heard practically nothing about it. We know, however, that it is slated for 2018. The same year that the Han Solo spinoff is hitting movie theaters, by the way. Which could either be a coincidence or a hint at the “roguish” take of this game’s narrative.

From a development perspective, we should not be worried though. Visceral Games (former EA Redwood Shores) has already an established trajectory in the industry. On top of that, great names are leading this project. Along with Amy Henning, we have Assassin’s Creed producer Jade Raymon and Kiri Hart, head of Lucasfilms’ story group. On a side note, it was the presence of the latter what ultimately motivated Henning to join the team.
