The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition Announced

Today, Bethesda has announced that they will be releasing a Legendary Edition for the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim this summer. The Skyrim Legendary Edition will be making its way to Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on June 4, 2013. European territories will follow suit a few days later on June 7, 2013.

Think of the Skyrim Legendary Edition as a Game of the Year Edition (GotY) that most companies, Bethesda included, make a few months after the original release of a game.  Like most GotY editions, the Skyrim Legendary Edition will include the most up-to-date version of the game (as of late, it’s the 1.9 title update), and the three add-ons to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The add-ons are as follows.

  • Dawnguard
  • Heathfire
  • Dragonborn

The Dawngaurd Expansion revolves around the Dragonborn protagonist deciding whether or not they want to assist a legion of vampires, lead by Lord Harkon, known as Clan Volkihar actuate the prophecy predicted by an Elder Scroll by performing the ritual; the Dawnguard. The Dawnguard will obscure the sun from the world, bringing complete and utter darkness for all of eternity.

The Hearthfire Expansion focuses around designing, building, and maintaining a homestead by purchasing plots of land all around Nirn. Hearthfire makes it possible to own properties in every hold, excluding Winterhold. Hearthfire also introduces the option to adopt children and raise them in their newly build homes, as long as there’s room for them.

The latest add-on installment to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the Dragonborn DLC. Dragonborn involves the return of a former Dragon Priest called Miraak, who was one-time ruler of the island of Solstheim. The return of Miraak calls the Dragonborn to travel to the island in an effort to stop the Dragon Priest who is purportedly the first individual to be gifted with dragon blood, much like the Dragonborn.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition will be releasing this summer for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on June 4 and in European territories on June 7.
