Telltale Discusses The Walking Dead Season 3

Every now and then a game comes out and it seems EVERYBODY is playing it at the same time (i.e. Rocket League). Back in the Summer and Fall of 2012, it was Telltale Games’s smash hit The Walking Dead. That five-part series not only lifted Telltale Games into the stratosphere of popular game developers, but actually redefined the Adventure Game genre; focusing less on item matching and trial-and-error gameplay, and more on conversations and split-second choices that have lasting and unforeseen consequences down the road.

Speaking of what’s coming up down the road, in a recent interview with Mashable, Telltale CEO Kevin Bruner discussed their plans for Season 3 which is scheduled to come out some time in 2016. One main point of discussion was that his team is finding ways to bring series mainstay Clementine’s story forward while maintaining the continuity of Season 2’s multiple paths depending on how players chose to see things through. Additionally, they are working on balancing their overall story arc while providing accessibility to newcomers:

“It allows people who maybe haven’t people who maybe haven’t played [the first two seasons] to come in and get up to speed really quickly. But it definitely respects, honors and facilitates all of the various end points that Season 2 had.”

Telltale Will Remember That

No question one of the most appealing features of this series has been how it carries your choices forward and shapes the story based on them. This was one of the big reasons why it was such a huge success; the different paths led to wildly different interpretations of characters and made for some truly unique gaming experiences. It is exciting to see that Telltale is continuing to find ways to keep this going with the new season, and here’s hoping Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 3 rekindles some of that magic that thrilled gamers back in the Summer of 2012.
