SXSW 2014 | Tales from the Borderlands Panel Talks Characters, Storytelling

At South by Southwest 2014, we learned quite a bit about Tales from the Borderlands. If you were confused when Telltale Games and Gearbox Software announced a partnership for a new series of episodic adventures, there was good reason. The team behind, Back to the Future, The Walking Dead, and The Wolf Among Us episodic adventure games seems to be the least likely pairing for Borderland’s “shoot and loot” gameplay.

Harrison Pink and Kevin Bruner of Telltale talked at SXSW about how their storytelling experience and diverse experience with different tones will feed into the Borderlands universe, and Gearbox’s Matthew Armstrong and Anthony Burch discussed how the idea came to be. To hear all about Tales from the Borderlands, including details on the two protagonists, the creative way Telltale is going to present their story, and where this game fits into Borderlands canon, check out the panel below.

The game isn’t set to follow Telltale’s traditional adventure game design, instead incorporating Borderland’s model into a new way of playing that is better suited to delivering a rich, compact narrative. The first episode of Tales from the Borderlands is expected to release this year.
