Surprise! The Last Guardian Has Been Delayed Again

In a shocking turn of events, The Last Guardian was revealed to be delayed for (hopefully) the final time this morning. The reason for the delay? So that the developers can stride to rid this extremely anticipated PS4 exclusive title of its bugs.

Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, made the delay known through a blog post on PlayStation.Blog. Within the post, Yoshida unveiled December 6th as the new release date for The Last Guardian. The previous date was actually for next month: October 25th. A little over a month is not too bad of a wait, especially if at the end of the day The Last Guardian ultimately benefits from this action.

“The Last Guardian development team is fast approaching major milestones in production and has made the tough decision to delay the release of The Last Guardian a few weeks,” he wrote. “Fumito Ueda (gen Design) and Japan Studio have a wonderful vision for The Last Guardian’s touching, emotional journey of friendship and trust, and we want to deliver the most polished experience possible for our fans who have supported us for so long. A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development. To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game’s creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues.”

With a game like The Last Guardian being delayed so much, the reactions are more or less what is to be expected. Since being in development from 2007, this title wasn’t shown to the public until 2009, when it was revealed to be a PlayStation 3 title. Sadly, the game fell off the grid and wasn’t heard from again until 2015. This time, The Last Guardian reappeared as a PlayStation 4 title and was giving a 2016 release window. At E3, it was revealed that the game would launch on Oct 25 before this current delay.

“Our development continues to push itself to the fullest and we look forward to revealing new content toward launch. We appreciate your continued support.”
