Super Mario Run Leaps to Android Google Play Store Today

Android users have felt the shaft from Nintendo as of late, whom had decided to release many of their first major mobile gaming ventures on Apple’s app store as a timed exclusive. Games like Pokemon Go, Fire Emblem Heroes and Super Mario Run have all released on Apple iPhone/ iPad format ahead of any competing mobile hardware, but all that is about to change as everyone’s favorite turtle-stomping plumber finally makes his way to Android devices this week.

Over the weekend, Nintendo of America confirmed the upcoming release via it’s official twitter account, revealing the proposed release date for Mario’s first mobile adventure, Super Mario Run to hit Google’s own app store on March 23th. The mobile title will launch on android devices alongside Update 2.0.0. At the time of this post, no information as to exactly what Update 2.0.0 will include or fix., but expect the usual: general bug patches and potential compatibility with any future DLC add-ons.

Super Mario Run was originally released in December 2016 exclusively to iOS-compatible devices, offering an all-new Mario side-scrolling adventure in the vein of popular mobile run-dash games of prior. The title is available as a free-to-play demo that provides a handful of free demo levels or as a $10 pay-to-play model, unlocking the full game (minus future DLC content). The game has roughly racked up an impressive 78 million downloads since last December. Nintendo recently revealed that about 5% of players that played Super Mario Run had actually bought the full game. That number may seem kind of low, but considering the full game is priced at $10, that means Nintendo is already swimming in dough, as the game has already earned millions of dollars.

Android users can pre-register for Super Mario Run at the Google Play app store now and will be notified once the game becomes available online.
