Steam Workshop Opens the Battlefield for Modders with Gettysburg: Armored Warfare

In today’s news from this year’s GDC was an announcement from Paradox Interactive and Radioactive Software that its forthcoming game, Gettysburg: Armored Warfare, will feature an editor and full toolset through Steam Workshop in support of the mod community.

The Third-Person Shooter (TPS) and Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game brings players back into an alternate history, albeit with futuristic technology and weapons, to battle as either a Union or Confederate troop and change the outcome of the American Civil War. Armies are assembled with an Army Builder with Steam Cloud support for saving ability, and an Integrated World Editor creates personal battlefields.

CEO and Lead Programmer Danny Green plans to support users in operating the game tools and Steam Workshop to build and share mods, based on the PC game’s powerful Radioactive Engine, to customize the game on a whole new level. Says Green of the opportunities:
“My producer [Gordon Van Dyke – Paradox] and I share a strong commitment and love for the modding community. My goal is to make Gettysburg: Armored Warfare a great platform to create gamers’ dream add-ons and scenarios. I’m excited to see how far they can take it.”
Features of the upcoming Steam-exclusive hybrid game include four 9 km x 9 km maps, a 64-player server, 14 unit types (infantry, cavalry, tanks, ships, zeppelins, etc.) and multiple gameplay modes, such as Army Skirmish and Deathmatch.
