Sony To Launch Browser Version Of PlayStation Store In U.S.

Sony is apparently planning to launch a version of the PlayStation Store you can access from your web browser in the U.S. this month. It already exists in Europe, and now Sony is working on a U.S. version of the PlayStation Store you can access from Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, or whatever else you use to look at pictures of cats and what your friends had for lunch.

Sony Entertainment Network COO Shawn Layden says the store will let you browse content and make purchases, and eventually, have it automatically downloaded to your PS3 for you to access when you get home — no word on whether or not that will require a PlayStation Plus membership, though.

He’s giving credit to the recent redesign of the store, saying usage has grown by double-digit numbers since moving from a look that had stayed basically the same for the previous six years.

The European site looks like a revised version of the store you find on your PS3, but with a slightly easier-to-navigate interface. Chances are the U.S. site will either look exactly the same or extremely close. We’ll let you know when the option to buy and browse from your computer or tablet goes live.
