Sony and Insomniac Announce Spider-Man for PS4 | E3 2016

Spider-Man PS4

Sony Computer Entertainment and Insomniac Games swing onto the scene with an exciting new trailer for the next Spider-Man game – a PS4 exclusive.

Spider-Man fans, long starved of a truly great Spidey game, will be very happy to see that not only is the web-slinger being shown some love at this year’s electric triple, but that Insomniac games are in the developer’s chair.

Insomniac Games have not only proven themselves as an excellent development studio, with the likes of Resistance and Sunset Overdrive in their bonnet, but they couldn’t be better suited to the wall-crawler. Coming hot off the back of their universally praised Ratchet & Clank reboot, the studio will play to its strong platforming roots. If the trailer is anything to go by, it looks as if New York has been captured beautifully – and will serve as a rich playground.

Spidey Mid-Swing

The blurb for the trailer offers us the chance to “take control of an experienced Peter Parker who is more masterful at fighting crime,” which is good news for anyone tired of playing the same old origin story.  The developer also stated that the game would not be based on the upcoming Spider-Man film, and that they were “thrilled to be given the responsibility to create a brand new, authentic Spider-Man story”.

The only game this will really have to live up to is Spider-Man 2, which set a bar that has yet to be cleared, giving players the first and best taste of swinging through New York and fighting crime. Insomniac is more than capable of clearing the bar.

Letting players loose to explore, play, and battle to their hearts content is exactly the kind of experience that insomniac has proven they can capture perfectly; you need look no further than Sunset Overdrive.

There was no word of a release date as of yet, so expect this for at least 2017. We will keep you up to date with any announcements in the coming months.
