Sega, Disney Look to Recapture Magic in Castle of Illusion Remake

Castle of Illusion is one of the most beloved Mickey Mouse games of the 16-bit era, and it’s something Sega is keeping in mind for the HD remake this year. In a video initially posted on the PlayStation Blog (but you can find below), the game’s original and new producers compared the differences, and similarities, of Mickey‘s adventure. It’s interesting to see the comparison shots between HD and original, and they provide some trivia about the creation of some of the original game’s bosses.

While the whole game is being treated as more of a new imagining of Castle of Illusion, rather than a straight-up remake, the story remains the same: Minnie Mouse has been kidnapped by an evil witch, and Mickey has to do his best Mario impersonation and save her.

The original Castle of Illusion was a Sega Genesis exclusive. This new “re-imagined” version hits the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC this summer as a downloadable game. There’s no word on price yet, but it’ll likely cost aruond $15, much like the DuckTales remake (also a Disney property getting an HD remake for modern consoles, except it’ll also hit Wii U, unlike Castle of Illusion) has been reported to cost.
