The Secret World Open Beta Begins May 11!

Funcom’s modern MMO The Secret World is now available for pre-order at retailers everywhere. Gamers who pre-order will be guaranteed access to the open beta which begins on May 11. The open beta will be conducted in a series of weekend testing events, much like was done for Star Wars: The Old Republic and Tera. In addtion to beta access, pre-ordering  also gets you an exclusive in game pet (Ferocious Wolf, Egyptian Cat or Loyal Hound), an exclusive in-game experience boost item, an in-game t-shirt featuring a “unique monster design” and early access to the launch version of the game up to four days in advance of the June 19 release date. The Secret World’s release was reportedly pushed back from April to June so that the developers could add some more polish. A closed beta is currently ongoing.

Here's what the confirmation looks like courtesy of a friend of mine who pre-ordered today.

Unlike most MMO’s which are based in a fantasy or sci fi setting, The Secret World takes place in the modern world and centers around the struggle for power between three secret societies: the Templars, Illumanti and the Dragon. There are no levels or classes, progression is skill based allowing complete customization depending on your preferred playstyle. Every myth, legend and conspiracy is true, magic is real and monsters roam the Earth. The Secret World will launch on PC June 19. Check out the official site for full details on the pre-order offer. And as always, stay tuned to the Game Fanatics for continuing coverage.
