Rumor: A New Counter-Strike in the Works?

Counter-Strike

According to a recent rumor, Valve is working on a new Counter-Strike game to be released in the far future.

Is Valve developing the next Counter-Strike game? That’s a fairly good question and the last rumor may shed some light by the end of the tunnel. In a recent Swedish podcast, founder of eSports organization Ninjas in Pijamas, Emil Christensen, dropped an interesting piece of information.

According to the translation by Valve News Network, Mr Christensen was talking about the franchise and then commented: “Well, there’s gonna come a…oh, I don’t know if I am allowed to say that, but they [Valve] are working on some kind of CS version or a new game, but that is years away”. He did not make further remarks nor provided any details after that. If that was a secret, it may just got released before its time. Ooopsie.

The Next Counter-Strike

As always, it’s best to take these reports with a grain of salt; we’d need to wait for Valve’s official confirmation on this rumor. Or we may add this announcement to the list of possible reveals during this year’s E3, who knows?

On the other hand, it would certainly make sense that Valve is heading towards that route, sooner or later. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive keeps on being one of the most played games on Steam, only surpassed by Dota 2. So that’s a very fertile ground for growth, if you ask me. Of course, we may contemplate here different viable scenarios. We may be in front of a reboot on the Source 2 engine, a sort of game-changing update or even a brand new title to add to the franchise. Whatever happens, we’ll eagerly wait for some official news.

What about you? Would you like to see a brand new Counter-Strike game, Fanatics? Let us know!
