Rock Band iOS NOT being cancelled

False alarm, mobile rockers. It appears that the iOS version of Rock Band is not being shutdown after all.

A couple of days ago iOS users started getting a disturbing message whenever they booted up their mobile Rock Band app that declared the game would be unplayable as of May 31. EA is now saying that that is fortunately not the case.

Rock Band for iOS will remain live – the in-app message users received yesterday was sent in error,” a representative for EA told Joystiq. “We apologize for the confusion this caused. We’re working to clarify the issue that caused the error and will share additional information as soon as possible.”

The original apparently erroneous message, that has since been replaced by the one above

Although this certainly raises some interesting questions about digital distribution and the amount of control developers and publishers may have over the continued availability of their games even after they’ve been purchased, for now it seems we can keep on rocking on our iOS devices.
