Ready for More Need for Speed?

Update: A new Need for Speed has in fact been confirmed for the Xbox One and Ps4 under the name Rivals.

Developed by Ghost Games, EA’s new Sweden-based studio, Need for Speed Rivals had the stress of innovated fueling its development.

“We wanted to build something –a new team that could come with some new energy that could embrace new thinking,” said executive producer Marcus Nilsson, who held the same position for Shift 2: Unleashed. Nilsson goes on to say that, “Need For Speed needs innovation.”

Need for Speed Rivals
I’d settle just for pretty cars.

The synopsis of EA’s newest addition to their tent-pole franchise suggests that innovation is exactly what Need for Speed got.

In Rivals, players decide between racing the streets or joining the police to hunt them down and new to the franchise is ‘AllDrive’ which allows players to seamlessly flow between single-player and online modes, merging your experiences with the players you come across.

Stat comparisons, issuing challenges, etc., all return with the Analog with and Need for Speeds staple of car customization.

Need for Speed Rivals
This isn’t standard issue, is it?

“The next generation is more about a mindset than anything else,” says Nilsson. “It’s about connectivity, it’s about convenience. It’s about how you can actually alter the gameplay rather than just make more beautiful graphics.”

While versions for the 360, PS3 and PC have been given a release date of November 19th, the next-gen console titles are still in waiting.

The announcement of Need for Speed‘s next installment is just around the bend.

Need for Speed‘s North American Facebook page simply states that,

“The Rivalry Begins. Learn More on May 23rd.”

Along with the presumed announcement date is the rendering of a Ferrari.

Nex-gen or not, this looks clean.

Need for Speed Rivals will be launching this November, on the 19th.
