The All New Razer Blade Gets an Upgrade in Specs, Price

The Razer Blade, the companies premiere laptop, has an all new model.

First things first, the price point: The Razer Blade will set you back $1,999. Yes, that is a pretty penny, but gaming enthusiasts aren’t exactly shocked by the price tag given the company’s history. With that out of the way, let’s talk about the key features.

  • 6th Gen quad-core Intel Core i7 Processor
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M video card
  • 14″ QHD display
  • PCIe SSD up to 512 GB
  • 16GB of DDR4 RAM

It’s clear that Razer has one thing and only thing in mind: performance. While, yes, you can build a comparable desktop for less, gaming laptops that actually perform have always been at a premium. With their latest model, the company is finally starting to come down from its $2,000+ price point. Whether or not that results in more purchases remains to be seen. I’ve talked to a fair number of people about the new Blade and their reactions have all been “that’s cool, but it’s way over my budget.” Again, Razer has always been about performance over price, but it’s still nice to see that the prospect of affordability it starting to creep into their minds.

There’s also a handful of factors one has to consider, too. We haven’t had our hands on with the new Razer Blade yet, meaning we don’t know the following:

  • What’s its battery life like?
  • Can it survive a weekend at an expo/gaming show?
  • Will I be able to do work related tasks with ease, such as video editing, streaming, etc?
  • Why should I spend money on this over a desktop?

Once we get the answers, then we’ll have a better idea about if the new, improved, and lower priced Blade is worth the money. For now, though, it’ll still be a pipe dream.
