Rainbow Six: Siege is Deploying Plenty of New Features in Year 2

Rainbow Six Siege

There are great times for Rainbow Six: Siege fans ahead. To celebrate the start of Year 2 Ubisoft Montreal has just released a dev diary that outlines what 2017 is bringing to the game. Their roadmap contains changes to the release calendar, tons of new features, matchmaking improvements, a new main menu and some tweaks to their eSports scene.

From now on, the yearly content is split into four seasonal content updates, along with an additional four mid-season “Reinforcements.” This makes for eight new Operators, four new free maps and new primary and secondary weapons. While these Operators are being added to the game, the team will also rework old Operators for the game’s new vision.

A much welcome change will also happen on the matchmaking front, with the creation of the one-step matchmaking. This system should fix the problem of players waiting forever in the lobby, allowing them to navigate through menus as the game gathers both teams. Players will also notice changes to the main menu, which will convert into a more user-friendly player hub. Last but not least, Ubisoft is also releasing a loot box system. It will work similar to Overwatch’s loot boxes, including cosmetic upgrades for your Operators.

The game’s original operators will receive a much needed tune up.

Rainbow Six: Siege – Going Strong on eSports

On top of all these in-game changes, the team is also overhauling their eSports support. As Brand Director Alexandre Remy pinpoints in the video, all efforts are going into “building a stronger pro-league.” For this, they will focus specially on the PC platform and create a three-layer ladder, from base GO4 tournaments, passing through Challenger Leagues until the Pro League. Next to the PC matches, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One GO4 and Major Leagues will also happen with the same schedule. Their GO4 and Major Leagues will mirror the first two PC competitive tiers.

Rainbow Six: Siege launched worldwide on December 2015 and since then has become one of the best competitive shooters out there. The video is a sneak peek but it’s also a statement: they intend to stick around.
