PS4 has 30 Sony Exclusives in Development

PS4’s first year just became even more exciting.

We knew that every one of Sony’s first party developers were working on PS4 title’s, but we now know just how many games that is.

In an interview with GamesReactor, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s CEO Jim Ryan has stated that 30 games are development by 1st party studios and of those 20 will be released in the first year and of those 12 will be new franchises or IPs.

“At the event in New York on February 20 of this year, we showed a lot of software. We showed a lot of first-party software. What we did at E3 here was really show some updates to those games, and, as you mentioned, introduce The Order: 1886. There’s a lot coming.”

Gritty and steampunk and London, oh my!

The number may be fantastic but the idea is not surprising as Sony holds a dozen studios –Naughty Dog, Media Molecule, Sucker Punch, etc– in their stable and Sony has a reputation built on having well crafted exclusives. They also rely on software sales for profits.

We’ve only seen a quarter of the exclusive games to be released in the PS4’s first year: DriveClub, Knack, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Infamous: Second Son and The Order: 1886. This list is to be expanded upon during Gamesom at the end of August.

“So there’s a lot going on, it’s just that we need to keep stuff back. We’ve got Gamescom for us Europeans—we need to have something to show at Gamescom, don’t we?”

Keep in mind that this number is solely regarding first-party studios and doesn’t include developers not owned by Sony, such as Quantic Dream, which among others, have close ties to the company.

Now to only find out what Sony Bend is doing…

Please.
