Press Start | What We Played

Welcome to Press Start! Every week we here at The Game Fanatics share what we’ve been playing during the past week.

Matt:

I finally got around to beating episode one of The Wolf Among Us this weekend. I’m glad to see the best aspects of The Walking Dead make a return, but I do think this first episode is awkwardly caught between genres. Is it a mystery game? Action? Merely an interactive story? I’ll chalk it up to me not being familiar with the Fables universe for now, but I’m hoping to see a clearer direction (and less reliance on rudimentary quick time events) in future episodes.

Jeff:

This week I finished both Dead Space and Halo 2 for the first time. I also picked up Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for Gamecube, which is considerably harder than the PSOne original. Now it’s on to Dead Space 2.

Jen:

I finally finished Grand Theft Auto V. Even though I did want to see one of the three main characters to be female, I still enjoyed the game and all three characters. Now I can focus on getting my Agent to level 50 and finishing up her story arc in SWTOR.

Ben:

Finished up WInd Waker HD. Fantastic game. I can pretty confidently say that every Zelda game since has been step backwards in quality. It’s easily one of the best games I’ve played this year. Think about that for a second. Yes, it is that good.

Anyway, I’ve also been playing Pokemon X and am really enjoying it. It’s a fun formula that still holds up. The new additions are nice too, especially the experience share for the whole party. It’s super handy. Then I took a look through my backlog and picked out Spec Ops: The Line. I’ve heard a lot about how interesting this game’s story is so I started it up. So far it has just been a pretty good 3rd person shooter but it is starting now to toss in some elements of the morality of war and such. I loved Heart of Darkness (the novel the game is clearly influenced by) but this isn’t quite doing it justice. Maybe the last half or so of the game does.
