PlayStation Now to Discontinue Service on PS3, PS Vita, and More

PlayStation Now

In PlayStation’s latest service update, they revealed that PlayStation Now compatibility will be discontinued for a number of devices, including PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation TV on August 15, 2017. Depending on your gaming habits, this can come as horrible news, especially as playing classics like Catherine or Shadow of Colossus on a handheld can be delightful when the interface and the Internet aren’t being a total piece of crap. You will still be able to play all PlayStation Now games on PS4 and PC though, making any subscriptions not a total loss.

While there is some hope in the idea that this will allow Sony to focus more fully on the PS4, it sadly looks like another slow nail in the eventual coffin of the PlayStation Vita. Supposedly, there’s always some hope that Nintendo Switch will somehow manage to spark another handheld revolution and cause people to see that the Vita is truly the most superior of all handhelds, but that hope is very small and looks like a sickly child attempting to peel an orange with no hands.

Here is the official quote from PlayStation’s blog:

On August 15, 2017, we will be discontinuing the service on the following devices:

  • PlayStation 3
  • PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV
  • All 2013, 2014, 2015 Sony Bravia TV models
  • All Sony Blu-ray player models
  • All Samsung TV models

Additionally, 2016 models of Sony Bravia TVs will be discontinued on April 1, 2017.
