Overwatch’s New Oasis Map is Now Available

Oasis

Blizzard has started the new year with a new map for Overwatch. Come visit Oasis!

Overwatch is looking to continue its momentum into 2017. Featured as a top 2016 pick from several of our lists (including those of Matt, Cameron and Tyler), Blizzard’s team-based shooter starts the year off with the delivery of Oasis, a brand new map. The timing feels convenient as we just said goodbye to the winter wonderland and make our way for warmer weather. Now Overwatch players get a nice present to make their return to normal life more bearable – discovering all the secrets of the new location, that is.

Here’s the official map preview that Blizzard has published. Pretty, innit?

Venture into the Oasis

Oasis has been available for beta testing on PC, but has been now released to the masses. Originally announced at Blizzcon, the map transports us to the futuristic city found within the Arabian desert, filled with plenty of regional influences.

Oasis is a Control map, so you’ll have the two teams fighting madly to establish and maintain the same point. Adding to the formula is the presence of floating cars, which travel on one side of the map and enjoy running you over should you be in their way. It will surely annoy some unsuspecting heroes looking out for foes. All in all, we consider it an interesting addition.

Since its release in May, Overwatch has nurtured its community with two new maps. On top of Oasis, Eichenwalde came last August and took us to an abandoned German village overran by nature. If we are to follow the temporal cycle of map releases, we could expect another location to appear around April this year.
