No Quick Time Events For Resident Evil 7

Capcom is really going above and beyond with their future title, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. One of the changes being made to Resident Evil 7 is the exclusion of QTE moments.

Since E3, we’ve gotten more information in regards to just what type of game Resident Evil 7 is going to be. Moving away from the action-filled vibe, Resident Evil 7 is going to return back towards its roots of being a survival horror title where survival elements play a big part in the game’s atmosphere. There won’t be protagonists who feel like superheroes either; just use RE5’s Chris Redfield as an example.

Capcom is course correcting where they want to take one of their flagship franchises and removal of QTEs from gameplay is a step in the right direction. With QTEs out of the picture, players will have to walk through unscripted moments rather than forced into them.

This information comes from an interview posted at the Capcom Unity Blog, where Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata officially confirmed that QTEs or Quick Time Events are no more.

“There will be no Quick Time Events in Resident Evil 7,” Kawata said with a laugh. “I know there are a lot of people who will be relieved to hear that.”

And though Resident Evil 7 seems to be coming completely from left field, Kawata went on record to stated that the next installment will still feel like a Resident Evil title.

“I’ve seen from initial reactions of what we’ve put out that people are getting the impression that we’ve taken Resident Evil and turned it into some sort of supernatural, occult, ghost story,” Nakanishi said. “I think you can look at the trailer or the demo and get that impression, but don’t worry, we haven’t just thrown out Resident Evil as it exists and turned it into a ghost story. It will all make sense in the end.

“I know it’s frustrating holding back on what we can show fans, but this is really the best way to let you enjoy the game to the fullest when it finally comes out. We just have a trailer and a demo at this moment, but watch this space in the coming months and we hope you look forward to the game. We’re going to do our best to make the best game we can.”

Players can get their hands on Resident Evil 7 Biohazard for PlayStation 4, Xbox One or PC once January 24th comes around. In addition, the entire game can be played while utilizing the PlayStation VR. Be sure to download the demo, Resident Evil 7: Beginning Hour to get a taste of what’s to come.
