PS Vita and 3DS in Trouble: Onlive Brings Next Gen Gaming to the iPad

Onlive is stepping their game up to a whole new level by providing popular games on the Apple iPad. If you remember Onlive from last year, their system is mostly comprised of computers doing all the hard rendering, while you play games comfortably from your PC. So in a nutshell, they’re bringing next gen gaming to people whose computers don’t meet the minimum requirements (Assassins Creed, Borderlands, and Crysis).

In the video below you can see an Onlive Representative playing Borderlands, which on the PC is very hard to do at max settings. As you can see he’s using little to no effort on the iPad. If what‘s being shown in the video comes to fruition before the end of the year, Sony’s Vita and Nintendo’s 3DS can kiss a large portion of the market goodbye.

Onlive offers a free service for gamers to connect online; however gamers still need to purchase the games. They offer you the ability to buy games individually or in a bundle pack. The bundle pack is $9.99/month and offers over 60 games. There are two ways to play Onlive, one is an application for your PC and the other is a micro console. The application is free and the micro console is only $100 and comes with a controller. As you can see from the video, they’ve now added a third way to play Onlive. Streaming these next gen games to your iPad, will raise the bar on mobile gaming. Will Sony and Nintendo look to this as an alternative way to provide gaming on the go? What do you think?
