New Xbox One Update Preps For the Future

The Xbox One July update has arrived and will serve as more of a behind-the-scenes update to prepare for features in the future.

The new update will focus on prepping for the launch of Windows 10 streaming July 29th.  Windows 10‘s streaming will allow players to play Xbox One games on Windows 10 devices, such as a desktop, tablet, or laptop.

The second part of the update will focus on preparing the backwards compatibility function that will be released in a few months from now. Backwards compatibility was one of Microsoft’s big announcements at E3 last month. The feature will be available at no extra cost for Xbox One owners and will allow players to play a select variety of Xbox 360 titles.

Currently, fans have voted for Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Red Dead Redemption and Skyrim as the top 3 games they would like to see make it to Xbox One’s backwards compatibility program.

“There are no new user-facing features in this release as the team focuses on the New Xbox One Experience that will be available later this year,” Major Nelson said on his website.
