New Street Fighter Announced, Shuns Xbox, Exclusive to PS4 and PC

A teaser for the new Street Fighter briefly appeared on Capcom’s YouTube channel this morning before being changed to ‘Private.’ What’s more, the trailer revealed that Street Fighter V will be coming exclusively to PS4 and PC.

While absolutely not actually the fifth game in the series, not even closeStreet Fighter V is the newest installment in the long-running Street Fighter series, which debuted in 1987.

Street Fighter fans will surely rejoice to learn that the next installment in the series should be coming relatively soon, especially with there being ten excruciating years between Street Fighter III and Street Fighter IV. Three years ago, Capcom employee Seth Killian was quoted as saying that we’d see Street Fighter V “before 2019.” And it’s refreshing to see a developer release a teaser long before their quoted release window is up, for once.

As the video was a teaser, it didn’t show a whole lot. Just a short sequence between Ryu and Chun Li. The teaser didn’t mention anything about a release date, or if the PS4 and PC exclusivity was timed, but with the teaser out in the open now, we’ll be sure to get some more info soon. So, Xbox fans, there’s still a chance you won’t be left out.

This announcement comes ahead of tonight’s Game Awards, and this weekend’s PlayStation Experience, so it’s possible it was going to be revealed this weekend anyway.

As arguably the most popular fighting game series in gaming’s history, this is a pretty big announcement. Obviously Capcom didn’t quite plan on announcing it this way, otherwise we’d all be able to just go ahead and watch the video, but the short teaser should be just the start. In an age of frequent leaks in the video game industry, there’s no doubt more information will become available shortly.
