New Metal Gear Solid V Event Confirmed by Konami

Metal Gear Solid V

Metal Gear Solid V has had its long rumored hidden event surrounding nuclear weaponry ousted by Konami themselves.

While the ending and story of Phantom Pain continues to stir up debate, Konami continues to unfurl further layers to their latest adventure. On top of the hidden game, countless small “wow” details, and tapes hiding suggestive noises found within, Konami has finally given up the ghost of the Nuclear Deterrent cutscene that many are calling another ending to The Phantom Pain.

The FOB invasion part of Metal Gear Solid V is the key to this unlock, as is resisting the urge to bring a nuclear weapon onto your particular base. Basically, when your server region’s nuclear weapon count reaches “0” a scene will trigger that celebrates this world free of nuclear arms. Metal Gear’s official Twitter has been giving updates on each platform’s numbers to date with PC players having the most work to do with 11,473 active nukes as of yesterday. The order then goes PlayStation 4 (188), PlayStation 3 (140), Xbox One (52), and Xbox 360 (35).

The goal…or is it?

In a fascinating show of support for this common goal, groups of online supporters and detractors have risen up in Metal Gear Solid V for and against the Nuclear Deterrent strategy. One group stemming from Reddit called Metal Gear Philanthropy has made it their mission to wipe their respective servers with some taking over 100 nukes out single-handedly. Antagonistically, a group called Metal Gear Patriots has done everything in their power to fill servers with nukes even faster than the dismantling can take place. Both sides have created a War Games-like atmosphere with neither is willing to back down from in this meta-game that Hideo Kojima and his team have fostered. Of course, all of this dedication to the series and such a thematic gameplay component is likely making Kojima smile with utter delight.

Konami has also announced that a large update will be hitting Metal Gear Online, Metal Gear Solid V’s wider multiplayer component, sometime in December.
