New Far Cry 5 Art Reveals Militant Cult

Far Cry 5 Cover Art

Far Cry 5 will feature a militant religious cult, based on artwork released by Ubisoft.

The image draws comparisons to Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper. This was intentional, as Ubisoft’s twitter account also made references to the iconic painting. The man in the center of the painting is likely the cult leader. Surrounding him are various weapons and ammunition, showcasing the military hardware they possess. Another man, with the word “SINNER” written on his back seems to push the religious cult angle.

Another detail, noted by Polygon, is the presence of a cross symbol. This symbol replaces the stars on the American flag, as well as appearing on the church in the background. Polygon noted this is eerily similar to the Iron Cross, a military decoration used by Nazi Germany. This could indicate that the antagonists may also be neo-Nazis.

While Ubisoft hasn’t revealed any details regarding these characters, the images are very similar to the box art used for Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4. Those covers featured the villain, with weapons and victims, in front of a backdrop of the game’s setting. Based on that, it’s likely this is our first look at the game’s antagonists.

Set in the fictional Hope County, Montana, Far Cry 5 is the first game set in the USA. Ubisoft has announced a worldwide reveal trailer will be released on May 26. In the meantime, you can check out the first teaser trailer. Ubisoft still hasn’t announced a release date, however based on their recent earnings report, we know its expected by March 31, 2018.
