Need For Speed Adds Brand New BMW M2 Coupe

Adding to its roster of ludicrously expensive super cars, EA announced today that Need For Speed will include the video game debut of the BMW M2 Coupe, announced only yesterday.

At this point, racing games aren’t really about the racing anymore, right? The entire purpose of Microsoft’s flagship racing series, Forza Motorsport, is to be a graphical showcase for the Xbox One more so than it is to elevate the racing game genre on any mechanical level – that has gone unchanged for years, even for Need For Speed. Every advance announced by publishers and developers has little to do with the idea of racing – it is about a new thing added from the real world. A car, a handling modification, a way to measure speeds, or even the real world itself with graphic fidelity.

Such is the case with this new trailer, announcing an exclusive addition to EA’s Need For Speed – the BMW M2 Coupe, a car only revealed to the world yesterday. Very little in this trailer is designed to show how the BMW M2 races – this is about how it looks. The camera slides and dives onto minute details of the car that will never be seen in an actual race, like the fog on the inside of a headlight. The rain drifting off the rear lip in a close up you’ll never see from the fixed perspectives of a racing camera. A race between five of these monsters is photographed nothing like how an actual race in Need For Speed looks – cinematic angles of cars diving across over a rain-slick road in Need For Speed’s visually stunning Ventura City, sliding between wheels inches from the ground and meters from where you’ll see.

The BMW M2 is the successor to the 1 Series M Coupe, first sold two years ago and widely beloved in car culture. With a six-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive, the M2 carries 370 horsepower and 343 pounds-per-foot of torque, the Need For Speed M2 Coupe will undoubtedly look and sound amazing as it roars through Ventura.

Other BMWs that will be included in Need For Speed include the M3 E46, M3 Evolution II E30, M3 E92, and M4 Coupe.

Need For Speed will release for PS4 and Xbox One on November 5th, with a PC release to come in spring 2016. It will cost $60, which is much less than the BMW M2 Coupe.

[toggle title=”BMW M2 Coupé, only in Need for Speed”]Ventura Bay is already home to a number of great looking BMW’s, and today we’re pleased to welcome the BMW M2 Coupé into Need for Speed. With the M2 having only just been officially unveiled to the world, we’re incredibly excited to be giving this brand-new BMW its video game debut. Starting November 3rd, we can confirm that the BMW M2 Coupé will be available to drive, and customize, in Need for Speed. The BMW M2 Coupé represents the successor of the historical BMW 1 Series M Coupé. With its 6-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive, the BMW M2 Coupé sets new benchmarks in terms of driving dynamics and agility. Moreover, the consistent use of iconic M design elements contributes to its expressive design and authentic M appearance. With an engine output of 272 kW (370 hp) and a maximum torque of 500 Nm, this car is a power pack, letting you know the true promise of ultimate driving pleasure![/toggle]
