Naughty Dog Exploring Ideas for The Last of Us 2

Arne Meyer, one of Naughty Dog‘s community strategists, told VideoGamer.com that it would be a be a “would be a disservice to ourselves and our fans” to not consider options for a sequel to The Last of Us.

The game has sold over seven million copies since its release last summer; it makes perfect business sense for a sequel to happen. Mayer then went on to discuss whether or not it made sense story wise.

“I think we always make a smart decision in that all of our games are self-contained stories so they don’t have to continue if we don’t want them to or if there’s no reason for them to continue…It really comes down to is there something interesting in this universe we’ve created that we want to continue to explore? Is it something that we can get the entire team passionate about? Is it something we can get the creative directors excited about and then we could continue it? We’re just starting to explore ideas of what more could there be in this universe and starting that decision process. That doesn’t mean the end result is guaranteed.”

So far all entries in the Uncharted series have been playable without playing the games set prior. This appears to be a trend by Naughty Dog that’s set to continue. Lead Directors Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann are currently leads on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which is likely to release in 2015, so they are unlikely to be able to work on a sequel to The Last of Us anytime soon.

The Last of Us Remastered releases next weekend, July 29th, on the PS4. When we reviewed the original PS3 release we gave it a perfect 10. Will you be picking it up when it releases? Do you want to see a sequel or would you like to see Naughty Dog work on a different IP?
