Mafia III: New Trailer Shows its Action-Packed Driving Style

Mafia III

As with any Mafia game, driving inside the vast world is both a core element and a pleasure. In their latest trailer, 2K Games delves into the car world of Mafia III and the “Hollywood action” style they are creating.

It has been only some weeks since 2K Games announced that Mafia III is hitting stores this fall. All the bites and pieces that we are (gladly) receiving about it makes us think that it’ll probably feature quite high in the best-of-the-best lists for 2016. No one can deny that the longing for the franchise is real. There are quite a lot of expectations put into this one.

The last video testimony to add to the catalog has been published and delves into the driving schemes of the new game. One quick glance over it and it gets us tingling: we are right inside the 1960’s, hot asphalt burning under the wheels of our Cadillac. Design Director Matthias Worch comments that one of their inspirations was indeed the driving movies of that period, helping them shape what they call “Hollywood action” style. Basically, they want players to feel they are stunt drivers withing a big Hollywood movie production. We hope, witty puns included.

The world of cars will not only stop at providing us with amazing and stylish vehicles to use in our ventures. Each of them will have its own mass and core design, making for different driving styles (and sharp drift turns, of course). Also, cars will behave differently depending on the surface you are on, which is a nice touch.

Mafia III
The streets of New Bordeaux are not for feeble drivers…

Driving in New Bordeaux

As a reminder, Mafia III is set in 1968 and will depict New Bordeaux (a fictionalized version of New Orleans) in all its splendor. We will play as Lincoln Clay, a young Vietnam War veteran who comes back to the city to join The Black Mob but finds himself amidst a bloody whirlpool of events, to the point when he starts to build a crime organization from scratch to confront the everlasting Italian racketeers.

The old good classics of the saga will stay the same: there is open world, stealth mechanics, loads of dialogue and a cover system. Plus an impressive array of classic shotguns and street shootings, we are sure.

Mafia III is hitting stores on October 7th for PC, Playstation 4 and XBox One. So be prepared!
