Legal Battle | Activision and Infinty Ward's Lawsuit Settles

Activision and Infinity Ward have finally come to a settlement with their legal battle regarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.They announced today that both parties in litigation have reached a settlement from the dispute. Of course, as we assumed they are confidential.

I’m sure for good reason. Privacy and such… Oh, and Activision also wanted to share that the settlement won’t affect their earnings this year or in the future. Settling out of court has it’s benefits!

The creators of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Infinity Ward and Activision went into a legal battle over the very profitable title over millions of dollars owed in royalties to Infinity Ward employees Jason West and Vincent Zampella, previous heads of the Activision game studio Infinity Ward. They sued Activision over being fired from the company in March 2010 to avoid bonuses and profits from the popular title. Apparently the amount they were suing for was over $36 million dollars since the game released in November 2009.

The legal battle caused many issues with gaming tournaments around the globe due to the dispute. Mainly causing the Major League of Gaming tournaments for the game to be canceled. This put a damper on major tournament events that year. Activision and Infinity Ward are going to need online reputation management after the legal debacle is over.  Both companies have upset the consumer as well as game industry employees in both companies.
