Heist Fever Continues with Payday 3

Payday 3

The rights from the Payday franchise have recently changed owners – but this is not a bad thing. The new studio has not wasted time in announcing that Payday 3 will happen while the second game will still expand.

Starbreeze Studios are not exactly new in the universe of clown masks and crazy heists but they have secured the ownership of the franchise. The Swedish developing studio behind titles such as Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and Syndicate announced yesterday the full acquisition of the Payday franchise. And because they wanted to have a cherry on top, they have confirmed that Payday 3 is in the works.

Hold your breath though: there are no further details about a release date or any core features we can feed with. However, it’s nice to know that the franchise is open for continuation and that Payday 2 will still develop, courtesy of the deal signed with 505 Games. The latter are not saying a complete goodbye since they will still retain 33% revenue share of Starbreeze’s net revenues from future sales of that game.

Good News for Payday 2 Players

Overkill Software, a subsidiary of Starbreeze and the real guys behind Payday 2, will continue to grant support with further content updates to the second installment of the series for the next 18 months. They have confirmed it so via a video update that celebrates update number 100. As a proof of this, they have also released free community grenades and announced the end of the painful microtransactions – which is definitely a very nice step into the right direction and shows the commitment of the whole team to the evolution of their baby.

If Overkill is granting that support time frame for the current game, does this mean that Payday 3 will appear someday by 2018? It’s probably too early to know. That’d be sweet, no doubt. But at least we have our backs covered with some juicy updates until the next generation of heists begin.
