Hackers Breach Ubisoft, Access Account Info

If you have an account with any Ubisoft website or the uPlay service, you may want to change your password. In a press release issued today, Ubisoft confirmed that someone managed to get into their servers and access account info, including usernames, passwords, and email addresses. While not confirming that it was their uPlay info that the hackers were after, and in fact not even saying which Ubisoft website was hacked in the first place, they’re trying to get everyone to change their login info immediately.

“… we learned that data were illegally accessed from our account database, including user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords. No personal payment information is stored with Ubisoft, meaning debit/credit card information was safe from this intrusion. Out of an abundance of caution, we are recommending all our users change their passwords.”

The company went on to apologize for the breach, and say they’re taking steps to implement tougher security measures to make sure this doesn’t happen again. They’re also hoping to catch whoever’s responsible.

Again, while not confirming it, it’s likely that uPlay was targeted. The cross-game interface was launched in 2009 as a way for Ubisoft to not only digitally distribute games, but also to implement the company’s own form of DRM that has at times proven less than stellar.
