We are only a few weeks away from the release of The Frozen Wilds, the first (and only) DLC for Guerrilla’s successful Horizon: Zero Dawn. The expansion is arriving on November 7 for PlayStation 4 users with a price tag of $19.95. If you are a PS Plus subscriber you can snatch it for $14.95 though.
We already know that The Frozen Wilds DLC is all about exploring a brand new land; expanding the storyline initiated with Aloy. In a recent interview with OPM UK, Lead Writer Ben McCaw and Lead Quest Designer David Ford gave some details about what to expect from this adventure. And by the looks of it, this expansion is bringing a lot to enjoy.
First and foremost, the DLC won’t be playing after you complete the original game. “We consider it to be more of a mid-to-end game in terms of the difficulty set,” said Ford. Apart from typical new areas and locations, The Frozen Wilds centers around the rivalries between two of the factions we saw in the original game: the Banuk and the Carja. The expansion will take us into disputed territory, the origin of a lot of strifes between both groups.
The Frozen Wilds Comes with Extra Improvements
Apart from everything tied to new narratives, the content expansion is also bringing gameplay additions and nifty enhancements. The level cap, for instance, will increase from 50 to 60.
On top of that, the combat is expanding in complexity with the addition of new skills, weapon upgrades, and even brand new weapons. “We’ve been experimenting with some tweaks on the game’s systems”, said Ford, “and we think they’re a lot of fun to play with.” If this means new ways of slaying those giant dyno machines, we are game.
