Grand Theft Auto Online to Include Microtransactions for In-Game Items

Rockstar has confirmed that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto Online will include an option to purchase items using real life money in the form of microtransactions. These microtransactions will allow players to purchase cars, guns, and clothes. Rockstar has assured the public that the game is balanced to make it fair for players that choose to not spend real money. GTA$, the currency used in Grand Theft Auto V and also Online, will be for players that want to earn the high priced items sooner than later in the game. The items are attainable without the use of real money, but will require players to earn the cash through winning races, completing jobs, and other GTA familiar ways to “earn” money.

The denominations for GTA$ are used as Shark Cash Cards:

Red Shark Cash Card ($100,000) – $3.00

Tiger Shark Cash Card ($200,000) – $5.00

Bull Shark Cash Card ($500,000) – $10.00

Great White Shark Cash Card ($1,250,000) – $20.00

(The real money denominations were converted from British Pounds)

Grand Theft Auto Online’s pricing will be different from GTAV, for example; a $1 million dollar in GTA V will be $150,000 Online. Smaller items will be more expensive, like guns, clothes and ammo.

Grand Theft Auto Online will launch October 1st 2013, check out the trailer below:
