Go buy yourself something nice!

Fun, kitsch, obscure, awesome. Products based on video games that don’t try too hard or appeal to the hipster masses.

Everyone (even your mom) knows about Mario and Power-ups but what about Meatboy and the Red Ring of Death? Here are some suggested things to buy and places to look if you want to buy in the future.

1. Since I mentioned Meatboy in the teaser, let’s start there.

I got my Meatboy shirt, do you have yours?

2. While all the fangirls are rocking the Jolly Rodger because of Pirates of the Caribbean or some vampire shit, you can get you fill of death in your own unique fanatical gamer way.

How about a Read Ring of Death coaster for while you drink away the boredom because your xbox has been shipped off to the Microsoft clinic to be fixed or replaced?

3. Are you old school (skool?)? Retro? All about the classic arcade games?

Well, Shirt.Woot never fails to bring the awesome or the obscure. This Frogger gem is no different. What a sweet frog, helping that chicken learn the ropes of road crossing. You know what they say, “Those who can’t do…”

REMEMBER: Shirt.Woot shirts are only available for as long as people are buying them so don’t dilly dally or you’ll be run over by regret and shame.

(also there’s a fun Duck Hunt shirt now in the reckoning.)

4. Cold? Don’t bother putting some pants on, try these sweet hoodies instead. Yous should be insulating your core anyway…

Master Chief Halo Hoodie

Root for the bad guys with this Umbrella Corp (Resident Evil) Hoodie.

Also a nice way to stay warm, is this sweet Ghost (Call of Duty) Mask.

5. Finally, support your local artists! The best way to get the rarest video game goodies, is to buy handmade awesomeness from someone who understands you and what you need from gaming extras in life. On etsy.com, you can find anything from hair accessories to vinyl wall decals.

What I love about etsy, is that it’d no cafe press or zazzle reeking of desperation and five minutes ago. These people  are (mostly)legit and talented artists whose talents would have only been seen by their local art fair frequenters. Etsy is a giant art fair and it’s awesome.

Some Etsy finds:

Final Fantasy – Phoenix Down Necklace by NeliaTenlion

She has so many more phone charm, necklace, and earring potions from Zelda, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and more, which she made by hand.
A Boo (Kirby) Pillow by indenyldesigns

And we’ll end it with the best thing I’ve seen in a while:

A set of 24 green Space Invaders [Soap], scented with Mountain Dew-type fragrance oil. by Digitalsoaps

As always, you could just spend your money on games and leave your home and body sparse.

[Linking to these sites/sellers does not indicate affiliation or even that I or thegamefanatics.com has ever heard of them before or bought anything from them or know them. So, what I’m saying is, check out the site before you buy from it. And if an online retailer burns you, it’s not my problem. I’m just saying, “Look! Isn’t that neat?” Check terms and conditions and reviews before buying from a new site.]
