Gassy Mob Hands-On Preview | PAX Prime 2015

Gassy Mob

Finally, a developer has released a game, Gassy Mob, highlighting the most irritating aspect of conventions: the “Crop Duster” a.k.a. farting in a crowd of people then walking away.

The first thing you notice about this new title is how bright, colorful, and cheerful it is – like it was left on the cutting room floor of Katamary Damacy. Instead of a fart game, you expect it to be about unicorns and rainbows and sunshine. What you get couldn’t be more different. The objective of the game is to skate into groups of NPCs and fart to score as many points as possible.

Gassy Mob
Revenge…sweet…revenge…!

Things get tricky when you realize that your fart “juice” is tied to your health. The more you fart, the higher you score and the easier you are to kill. And an angry mob of fartees isn’t your only concern. There are spikes scattered throughout each map, that could spring up and end your Gassy Mob gas spree. Bombs are also spread out that can be set off if they are caught in your fart radius. While they can harm you, they can also thin the herd of angry NPCs that chase you down relentlessly.

Not everything in the game is out to get you. There’s food all over the place that recharges your health and fart meter. If you happen to eat a spicy pepper, you’ll gain invincibility and pass nonstop red gas that propels you through the world. Balloons filled with your potent methane are also around and primed to blow when you toot on them.

As you mark more an more innocent bystanders in Gassy Mob, you gain coins which can be used to buy power ups, such as snowglobes that freeze everyone, a spring that makes you ollie higher, or a hoverboard that makes you move faster. Oh yeah, you’re on a skateboard, and farting makes you ollie. And you kinda look like Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time.

Gassy Mob

I didn’t expect to like this game to this extent, but just a few minutes with it put a giant smile on my face and got me hooked. It didn’t hurt that it could have been a meta game about the experience of PAX attendees. Seriously though, who the hell keeps farting as they’re walking the showfloor?! We WILL find you…

Gassy Mob will be releasing for iOS and Android soon.
