The Five Most Watched Games On Twitch | Fanatical Five

Nowadays there are numerous ways to provide live streams for the public eye to view: Twitch, YouTube and Facebook. These are definitely great tools to use especially for streaming games or hobbies that viewers may be interested in watching. In celebration of our recently launched Twitch channel, lets take a look at the top five watched games on Twitch.

Dota 2

Developed and published by Valve Corporation, Dota 2 is a free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena, also known as a MOBA. The game has always had an established fan base during the original Dota release. The game pretty much came around the time of Warcraft III back in 2003. This push led by Valve molded the scene to be community-driven along with their already huge tournament scene. What makes the game great is that the money generated in-game is used towards tournament winnings as well. Over the years, the Dota community continues to grow as well as gaining more fans. In addition, the developers have pushed the game into what is now called, “electronic sports” (eSports). The game’s prize pot is now worth millions contributing from the sponsors and players.

Overwatch

Overwatch, a game published and created by Blizzard Entertainment is a multiplayer first-person shooter with elements of a MOBA. Players are put in a team of six versus six with unique characters that have their own set of moves. The characters also have a super move called an “ultimate” (once the character’s meter is charged). Since the release of the game, Blizzard’s successfully released their fourth franchise with more than 15 million players. Fast-paced and teamwork heavy, this game will be around for a while with free DLC along the way.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, also known as CS:GO, is probably one of the most respected FPS games out to date. With Counter-Strike having such long history, this game is not one of the easier ones to pick up. The graphics may not be up to par with current FPS games, but the game play makes up for it. CS:GO also features in-game money that players use wisely for their own set of weapons during the match. The turn around in matches can be quick especially if the player is not properly prepared. Being that CS:GO’s predecessor released in 1999, this is one game that will be around for a long time.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft

Published and developed by Blizzard Entertainment, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is an online card game. Since its release in 2014, the community of the game has grown over time. Furthermore, multiple expansions were released and the competitive scene became huge. The game takes appeal to card games like Magic the Gathering and Blizzard simplified it. It’s an easy pick-up game. The random number generator (RNG) that factors in during matches even makes season one players lose to randomized moves. Also, the game has many professional players that have streams, which makes it more exciting to watch.

League of Legends

League of Legends (LoL or League) is another MOBA game that is published and developed by Riot Games. Inspired by Warcraft III and Dota, players control champions with a team of five to defeat the opposing team’s base. The team’s base is also protected by defensive structures that must be destroyed to claim victory. Player matches can go from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the team’s synergy. As one of the most popular games streamed on Twitch, League has more than 67 million players playing per month. No other game has yet claimed dominance in its number one spot.

There you have it, folks. We have the five most watched games on Twitch. As a result, Twitch doesn’t always have the same games in these spots, and anybody can be a streamer. In the end, the site isn’t only filled with first-person shooters or MOBAs, but other hobbies not related to gaming.

As a viewer, what games do you normally see in Twitch’s top five spots? Sound off below.
