FIFA 18 eWorld Cup Kicks Into Gear this Week

FIFA 18

The eSports industry has become hugely successful over the past few years. Competitive gaming has taken a turn towards the professional sports sphere.  FIFA has become an especially relevant game due to its similarities with traditional sports.  As a simulation of actual sport, FIFA is a great fit for inclusion in the competitive gaming industry.

Previously, EA Sports hosted the FIFA Interactive World Cup. This event has been held annually since 2004.  The new FIFA eWorld Cup has replaced this event for the coming year.

The eWorld Cup

The first FIFA eWorld Cup event will begin its qualifying round this Friday, November 3. The matches will be part the Global Series. The Global Series is essentially the name for the large number of tournaments leading up to the eWorld Cup Grand Final.

In addition, the event will see competition among the 128 top-ranked FIFA players in the world. 64 of these players will be PlayStation players, and the other half will be pulled from Xbox One fans. The Grand Final of the tournament will not be until August of 2018, so players will be in it for the long haul. This journey has been coined”Road to FIFA”.

The Grand Final will be open to the 32 players that make it though the event leading up to it.  EA Sports has not yet announced the host city for the final tournament.

It was also recently announced that games such as FIFA and Rocket League are being considered for the 2024 Summer Olympic games.  Coupled with the eWorld Cup, hopefully will help continue to prove the viability of eSports as competitive and professional games.

Players interested in competing in the event should check here for details.  There are several different qualification categories and each have different stipulations attached.
