The “Father Of Video Games”, Ralph Baer, Has Passed Away At Age 92

Rest In Peace Ralph Baer. Ralph Baer, a.k.a. the Father of Video Games, was the creator of the very first video game console and has passed away at the age of 92.

Ralph Baer was born in Germany in the year 1922 but fled the country in 1938 due to the Nazi influence pervading his homeland. Baer was responsible for developing the Brown Box, which was later renamed the Magnavox in 1966. The system underwent another name change in the year of 1972 and was renamed Magnavox Odyssey. Baer was also the creator of the light gun and the electronic memory game Simon. Baer also came up with the gameplay concept that would later become the game Pong.

President George W. Bush gave Baer The National Medal of Technology in 2006, and in 2008 Baer received the Game Developers Choice Pioneer Award. He had over 150 patents to his name and was exploring electronics well past his retirement age.

The details of Ralph Baer’s passing are not available at this time, but one thing is for certain: The world of gaming would look very different without his influence and ingenuity.
