Elder Scrolls MMO Officially Announced, Developed By ZeniMax Online Studios

Elder Scrolls Online was one of the worst kept secrets in all of gaming. Today, it is a secret no more: Bethesda officially announced the title, due out for PC and Mac in 2013.

Game Informer will be running the official unveil for their June issue.

“We have been working hard to create an online world in which players will be able to experience the epic Elder Scrolls universe with their friends, something fans have long said they wanted,” said Matt Firor, game director of The Elder Scrolls Online. “It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years. The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.”

Matt Firor may be best known for his work on the Dark Age of Camelot series from his days at Mythic Studios.

Elder Scrolls Online will take place on, presumably, the entire continent of Tamriel, one millennium before the events of Skyrim. This will place the game also well before the events of Oblivion. The story will focus on daedric prince Molag Bal, as he tries to bring all of Tamriel into his own demonic realm.

Game Informer‘s cover tease mentions player driven PVP with three factions, player dungeons, and the Emperor’s throne. Once the issue hits news stands, we’ll know more.
