E3 2011: Mario Titles Coming to 3DS & Wii U

During Nintendo’s E3 conference this morning several exciting Mario titles were promoted for both the 3DS and the new Wii U console:

Super Mario 3DS has the 3D look with a side-scroller feel to the levels. The Tanooki suit is back too! Mario is cute as ever with that tail. We also saw Mario escaping a boo while jumping around on piano keys, making a musical note with each step. Another exciting throwback: Mario jumping on to the flagpole. Super Mario 3DS is due to release “before the year is over.”

Mario Kart 3DS is getting a nice upgrade and was called “tricked out version you haven’t driven before.” The option to customize both the body and wheels on your vehicle is now a reality in Mario Kart 3DS. Some of the courses are familiar and others are new, including some serious jumps that require a hang glider for your vehicle and even portions that go underwater and a little propeller pops up on the back of the karts. Mario Kart 3DS will be released this holiday season.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 is coming to the 3DS. It was stressed that Luigi’s Mansion 2 is an entirely new game with “extraordinary use of 3D” and it will feature several mansions instead of just one. It looks ridiculously adorable.

New Super Mario Bros. Mii allows players to have their Mii play right along side Mario on Nintendo’s new console Wii U. So far it looked very similar to Super Mario Bros Wii with the added Mii ability, but I’m sure more details will be released soon that describes the key differences of the two games. Players will and watch the game on both the handheld portion of Wii U and on TV.

A new Super Smash Bros. is in the works for both Nintendo 3DS and the new console Wii U. It was mentioned that the game will be “working together” on both platforms.
