Dungeons trailer released

Imagine for a moment you’re playing one of those classic, top-down RPGs that make up so many video game archetypes. You are a hero for good, or perhaps a self-indulging thief, delving into the depths of a monster-filled dungeon to uncover vast treasure in its maze-like depths. The deeper you get the farther you are from sunlight, the walls close in, the darkness permeates your every movement as evil lurks around every bend, waiting to pounce as you avoid traps and uncover riches. In the end, the hero wins, you escape the dungeon, haunted by its trials but exhilarated nonetheless.

Now, imagine being the evil fiend, lord of all the monsters, architect of doom and guardian of a vast repository of wealth. The power surges through you and for one brief moment, your dark potential is limitless. Then, your ex-girlfriend, vile by nature and perturbed by some domestic dispute comes back into your life, thrusting you out of your position of glory, leaving you at the bottom of the dungeon lord food chain.

In Dungeons, the upcoming title from the Kalypso Media Group, that is  your role as you take control of an army of trusty goblin builders and work to stymie brave heroes in search of glory, justice and wealth. Using these goblins, users can build walls, rooms and traps to design fearsome and deadly dungeons. As your lair becomes more formidable, more powerful heroes will come to steal your wealth. At the same time, new allies from the very depths of darkness will come to your aid as you work to build a dungeon empire and seek revenge against your ex.

Earlier today, Kalypso released a new trailer of the title, providing a synopsis of the gameplay and giving gamers a taste of what to expect. Currently, the game is slated to release in the first quarter of 2011 as a PC-exclusive title.
