Doomfist Arrives and Overwatch Summer Games Return

Doomfist

Overwatch has brought out the big guns fists to keep gamers riding the Blizzard hit throughout the summer. After joining the Overwatch cast of characters last week, Doomfist, is officially unlocked as a playable character in competitive mode. Additionally, the Summer Games event from last year which awarded loot boxes containing special limited time event skins returns, starting next week.

The Bad Man with the Big Fist

Doomfist, first released on July 27th, is a melee fighter that can shoot rockets out of his knuckles. Doomfist is a bit of a wild card in competitive at this stage, being that it is so new to the game. Competitive Overwatch is all about strategy and countering so a surprise Doomfist pick may be a key to squeak out a victory; or a costly mistake. The character has shown off great mobility, similar to Tracer or Genji, which allows for quick movement around the map. Similar to Genji, Doomfist has verticality which will be valuable to bring the pain from above. It would be a wise bet to assume he will be used in combination to some of the heavy hitters in the Overwatch lineup. He will need other characters to round up a group so he can unleash his Meteor Strike ultimate which has massive AOE damage.

Collecting Skins and Lucio Ball

The popular Summer Games event returns next week with new skins and a new Lucio Ball map. The event runs from August 8th through 29th. In addition to the new skins, last years limited time skins will also be available at a reduced cost.

The breakdown of the 2017 event Loot Boxes are:

  • Legendary Skins will cost 3,000 credits
  • Epic Skins will cost 750 credits
  • Rare tier will cost 225 credits
  • Common tier will cost 75 credits

The reduced cost 2016 event Loot Boxes are:

  • Legendary Skins will cost 1,000 credits
  • Epic Skins will cost 250 credits
  • Rare tier will cost 75 credits
  • Common tier will cost 25 credits

The new Lucio Ball map will be set in Sydney. The 2016 Lucio Ball map, Rio, will also be playable as game will rotate between maps. 2017 also sees the addition of a second competitive mode for Lucio Ball, allowing players to place and rank.
