Do We Need Next Gen Systems?

With PAX ending and E3 way behind us, I’m starting to hear rumors about a new Nintendo console. In passing, online, I’ve heard Nintendo mention that their next home system will be different from the Wii. Now what that difference is, I have no idea. I can guess that it might be a system like the Gamecube but more advance and with less focus on motion control.

Out of all the current consoles, I really think that the Wii will be the first to drop a new system. With Kinect for XB360 and Move for the Ps3, in a sense, both companies are giving us a new system already. I feel there is no need for an XB720 and a Ps4 right now. Both systems have room for more potential and improvement.

I always thought that they should move away from the 5-year “generations” of game systems and try to make a system that lasts. – Terra via Twitter

With Move and Kinect, it gives the Ps3 and XB360 the chance to be the systems that will last for a good amount of time. Keeping this in mind, this is why I think Nintendo will be the first company with a new system.

I’m not sure what I would like to see from Nintendo. Perhaps a system free from motion control and a lot more games that are not considered a gimmick and less casual games.

XB360 and Ps3 are fine and shouldn’t see a next gen upgrade for several more years. Both systems already have a solid fan base and as long as they don’t start making all their games motion control, both systems should continue to have a strong future.
