Day Two – Achievement Unlocked Gaming Awards 2010

Welcome to the second part of The Achievement Unlocked Awards. Todays awards are: Best Story, Best Art Style, Best Voiceacting, Most Pointless Peripheral, Worst Game. So without any further ado here we go.

  • Best Story – Pokemon Heart Gold

Yes, you might be right in saying that it’s a Pokemon story, and it’s got as much quality as a pile of mush. But if you look at the content of the story, it’s your childhood dream. Young boy is given a pet who can fight and gets bigger and better. You have to battle your way across the country in order to collect all of the badges form the bosses and then take on the bigger bosses. Along the way you take down a national gang of thieves and then take on their biggest boss several times. If this doesn’t make the child inside of you slightly excited, then your childhood was probably content and you didn’t need escapism. But the re-telling of the story, with some improvements is pretty damn awesome.

  • Best Art Style – Fallout: New Vegas

It may be Fallout 3.5, but it’s art style is vibrant, interesting and surprisingly deep for a game. It adds an extra level to a game with many different levels already. The art style, especially in the New Vegas area, makes the whole game more immersive, which is why F:NV wins my award for Best Art Style.

  • Best Voiceacting – Stephen Fry in Fable 3

He plays a pirate who can’t die. He is one of the best characters in this game and Stephen Fry is one of the coolest guys in the world. Simple.

  • Most Pointless Peripheral – Tony Hawk Shred

Look at the picture. Thats the goddamn reason, it’s completely pointless and it’s a peripheral. Seems that qualifies it for the award.

  • Worst Game – Final Fantasy XIII

I told you we would be seeing FFXIII again. It’s a JRPG, and while I may hate them with a passion, I did once like one or two a while ago. Specifically Final Fantasy 10. So when I saw the development team who made FFX as making FFXIII (is that kind of annoying now) I wanted to see what they were doing, but the was just a terrible, terrible game.

Kind of a short ceremony today, but tomorrow is all positive. So look forward to finding out my games of the year.
