Dark Souls III Trailer Shows Gameplay in an Ashen World

Dark Souls III

Dark Souls III was one of the lucky games to get a Gamescom trailer today, revealing more of what to expect from this darkly gothic sequel.

From Software pressed play on a new glimpse into the latest dying world that Chosen Undead will have to traverse next year during Microsoft’s Gamescom presentation today. Complete with castles, decaying creatures and jumping abominations, there are parts of the trailer that remind the world that this is still a Dark Souls game, but some pieces focused upon either feel or are new to the franchise.

The sacrifice system, though still avoided by From Software themselves, is on display in the trailer by both the player and a boss character. Dark Souls III also seems to be much faster than the other two while not quite reaching the speed and brutal grace of Bloodborne. Giants and potential lords also seem to be a running theme as more than one fills several screens worth of space.

Dark Souls III is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC sometime in early 2016. If you’re interested in a few fan theories, our own James has been putting out a string of articles tying together Bloodborne, Dark Souls and Demon Souls that you can check out here and here. Or, just check out the trailer below, or do both and go crazy.
