In Case You Missed It – Weekly News Roundup for the Week of August 1st, 2016

Pokemon GO Logo

It’s the end of the week, which means it’s time for In Case You Missed It! There are a lot of news stories that we at the Game Fanatics just weren’t able to get to on time, but we’d like to share them with you anyway! Without further ado…

In Case You Missed Watching Cable…

Gamers might have a reason to watch TV again, as the Turner Broadcasting Station (TBS) announced that a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive eSports tournament drew 19 million viewers to their channel. Of those, over 3.4 million were new to the station. This just goes to show that lot of people who are willing to watch professional gamers duke it out on television!

In Case You Missed Rocket League…

Overwatch players were treated to a huge update from Blizzard last week that contained the typical balancing and a little something extra. Since the Olympics are finally here, Blizzard has replaced all loot boxes with Summer Games Edition boxes, which provide limited editions skins and items during the month of August. Oh, and Lucioball is a thing now. It’s Rocket League in Overwatch, and it’s surprisingly fun! Just hope McCree doesn’t pop up…

In Case You Missed Expensive DLC…

Do you like anime girls? Do you want to make things a bit more… risque? Do you live in America? Last question: Do you have $90? If you answered yes to all of those questions, then the Pheromone Z DLC for Gal Gun: Double Peace should be right up your alley! The DLC launched with the game, but it is currently only available in the United States. The two main reasons are the extraordinarily high cost–PQube Games explained that “Europe has a different set of rules to the US and Japan and we’re not actually allowed to just charge what we want for DLC”–and the, erm, “adult” nature of Pheromone Z. ‘Cause it lets you see through clothes. Yeah, it’s a bit weird.

In Case You Missed Nintendo Power…

Then strap on your Power Glove! Archive.org recently obtained scans of every single issue of the classic Nintendo Power magazine. Yup, every issue. That’s 145 issues from 1988 to December 11, 2012. So, get to reading about your favorite games of yesteryear, and marvel at the glorious cover art!

Ah, the 90s… I had forgotten.

In Case You Missed Playing Old School Pokemon…

Pokemon fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Sun and Moon and are currently running across the land to hatch eggs in Pokemon GO. That’s nothing new. Some fans, however, want to make their own Pokemon games in the time between official series releases. Enter Pokemon Uranium. This fan game by JV and InvoluntaryTwitch has been in the making for over nine years. For some perspective, that was 2007, the lull year between Diamond/Pearl and Platinum! The game is free to download and play, features original Pokemon designs and a new region, and has an increased Shiny rate for most pokemon. Their website is currently down for maintenance, but you can hear about when it relaunches here.

And that’s about it for the week in review! Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comments below!
