In Case You Missed It – Gaming News for January 9 – 15, 2017

So, the Nintendo Switch got announced this past week. That’s cool. It looks nice. Yeah. You know what else happened this week? If not, here’s some of the things you might have missed, just In Case You Missed It!

In Case You Thought Half-Life 3 Might Become a Switch Title for Some Reason Because of the Illuminati…

First off, get off the Internet for a few minutes. Then, read this GameInformer interview with a Valve insider who claims to have learned the secret of Half-Life 3. TL;DR: Half-Life 3 doesn’t exist and may never come to life if we are to believe this anonymous source. Now I bet you’re reading a little closer now. Good, because here are the other info bits you’ll probably want. The big problem seems to be that the folks at Valve, including Gabe Newell himself, have no idea what to do to continue Half-Life’s story. The source says, “Every time a Half-Life project gets some gravity and then collapses, it becomes harder for the next one to start up. Because the business changes so much, and there are so many other things to do, it just gets harder and harder.”

They haven’t asked another developer to get on it because they are afraid of “a George Lucas type of situation, [to] deliver something like Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.” In short, Valve wants to make Half-Life 3 good, but they don’t even know where to start.

“See, the source was planted by Valve to make us THINK Half-Life 3 isn’t coming, but I rearranged the letters to spell HALF-LIFE 3 CONFIRMED!”

In Case You Want to Get The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I highly recommend getting a physical copy. According to the Japanese site for the game, the latest Zelda title will take up about 13.4GB of data. For reference, the Switch itself only has 32GB of internal storage. While it is true that the Switch does offer external memory via microSDXC, you are still looking at one big game.

In Case You Thought D.Va Shouting “NERF THIS!” Wasn’t Bad Enough…

Imagine over 10,000 South Korean Overwatch players sending DDoS attacks to their opponents. This “nuking” method was discovered by Blizzard and quickly dealt with, as they have now been banned from the game. It’s nice to know that I only have to worry about one bomb on the Hollywood map…

In Case You Wanted Games Done Quickly…

See you next time! Awesome Games Done Quick, a speedrunning marathon for charity, raised $2.2 million, breaking last year’s record by $1 million. This money, which was provided by over 40,000 donors, will be given to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. If you would like to donate but missed the stream, don’t worry. The Summer Games Done Quick 2017 event will take place on July 2-9.

In Case You Thought About Going to China to Play Pokemon GO…

You might want to rethink your travel plans. China recently banned Pokemon GO and other Augmented Reality Games. In a statement (translated by Luisetta Mudie of RFA), the Chinese government believes that “there are major social risks linked to the operation of this game” that include “breaches of security relating to geographical information, traffic safety and threats to consumer safety.”

It is true that weird things happen when people play Pokemon GO and that the game tracks the player’s location, so it is understandable that some might be uncomfortable with it. Then again, it’s China, so do with this info as you wish.

No Pokemon GO. Pokemon NO. Pokemno GO?

And that’s all for this week! Be sure to stick around to the Game Fanatics, and do check back when you can for all the news you need In Case You Missed It the first time!
